The overall target, or end goal, is a long-term vision or objective that defines and steers the direction of training, providing a purpose and focusing towards achieving this outcome.
Planning, which can be short or long-term, identifies a specific plan to outline the activities and processes that must be undertaken in order to reach the end-goal.
Goal setting differs from planning, as it involves defining specific, quantifiable objectives or desired outcome – i.e. goals – that you aim to achieve along the way in order to measure progress.
